Vilpovitsy Quarry

This locality was found by our colleagues about 10 years ago as a very small quarry for mining of crushed limestone for the roads in the village Wilpovitsy. Now after 10 years mining for trilobites the quarry has sizes about 150 x 50 meters and up to 15 m in depth.
Limestones of Middle Ordovician (mainly Asery level) are recovered by this quarry. Trilobites are excavated by hand or sometimes using small technique.
A small dislocations are known in upper part of the quarry as a result of influence of glacier about 14000 y. ago.
The quarry is characterized by large amount of different fauna finders. Sometimes main part of Middle Ordovician trilobites comes from this locality.

Hello – I recently bought a Asaphus Punctatus which I was told came from this place. I am very interested to know about trilobites. I research trilobites with abnormal tails. My hypothesis is that some types of trilobites (such as Coronocephalus) were able to regrow new tails as lizards do. If you encounter similar specimens please let me know.
